WQED-FM 89.3 FM is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The station began broadcasting in 1973 and in 2006 WQED began HD Radio transmission. WQED-FM transmits classical music, fine arts, news for the Western Pennsylvania region. WQED broadcast schedule includes locally produced and hosted classical music programming, interviews, and information about music, and internationally renowned orchestras, operas. Because of WQED-FM is only classical radio station in the Pittsburgh area, WQED-FM is depended on local artists, ensembles and organizations for assistance. WQED is a listener-supported. WQED annually produces a 26-week series of Pittsburgh Symphony, which broadcasts via Public Radio International. WQED-FM also reaches the Johnstown area via a repeater station WQEJ 89.7 FM.
