WUFT-FM Classic 89 is based in Gainesville, Florida. WUFT-FM 89.1 FM is an NPR member radio station. WUFT is located and owned by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. WUFT-FM began broadcasting as “Classic 89” in the Fall of 1981. WUFT-FM broadcasts to a 16-county area with its 100,000 watt signal. Since 1995, WUFT also operated WJUF 90.1 FM, which is owned by Inverness in Citrus County and WJUF works as a full-time repeater, under the moniker Nature Coast 90. WUFT-FM Classic 89 also broadcasts an HD signal which counter-programs their standard content. The format of WUFT is classical, concert music, jazz, folk, blues and world music. WUFT-FM ‘s classical broadcasts are the most appealing classical music from every era, with special emphasis on new releases and music of timely interest. Great works – broadcast complete – by the foremost composers are complemented by intriguing discoveries from the past and certainly the best of today’s compositions. “Classic 89” also provides special programs, for example, Reading for the Blind audio service, which is broadcasted using WUFT-FM‘s Subsidiary Communications Authorization.
