WMUK 102.1 FM is a public radio station in Kalamazoo, Michigan. WMUK began in 1951 as WMCR at what was then known as Western Michigan College. WMCR became WMUK in 1961, Western Michigan University. Now, WMUK 102.1 FM is Owned and operated by Western Michigan University. WMUK‘s broadcast schedule includes locally produced and hosted classical music programming, interviews, and information about music and WMUK 102.1 FM regularly broadcasts programs featuring internationally renowned orchestras and operas. WMUK provides comprehensive classical music programming, combining original productions, distinctive specialty programs, live concert presentations and the talents of local and nationally-recognized hosts.
In 1994 WMUK acquired its own transmitter tower and site through a donation from Fetzer Broadcasting Services.
WMUK is a charter member of both National Public Radio and the Michigan Public Radio Network.
