WCLV 104.9 FM Classical FM is based in Cleveland, Ohio (though technically licensed to Lorain). WCLV transmitter is located in Avon, and studios are at its former transmitter site in Warrensville Heights. WCLV was established in 1962. WCLV has gained an international reputation as a leading classical music station. In 1965, WCLV began broadcasting the Cleveland Orchestra radio, now heard twice weekly and distributed world-wide.
WCLV broadcasts City Club Forum, the Cleveland International Piano Competition, Weekend Radio, selected concerts by Apollo’s Fire and local classical music Cleveland Orchestra, City Music Cleveland and so on. WCLV was also the first FM-only commercial station to carry the Metropolitan Opera live from New York.
WCLV is one of the several remaining commercial classical music stations in the U.S. Although the station is supported by paid advertising and profits benefiting several major Cleveland arts institutions.
