WUISWUIS 91.9 FM is a radio station in Springfield, Illinois. The station is owned by the University of Illinois at Springfield. WUIS began broadcasting in 1975. Music Director Karl Scroggin began working at the station in 1977, and began as host of the midday Classics program in 1984. For twenty years, Karl has educated listeners about classical music and the arts scene in Central Illinois. WUIS 91.9 FM broadcasts schedule includes locally produced and hosted classical music programming, interviews, and information about music and internationally renowned orchestras and operas. WUIS broadcasts the Sangamon Auditorium concerts of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. WUIS has also long been committed to a wide variety of musical programs, including Bluegrass Breakdown, the classical Lincoln Library Concert, the eclectic modern folk of Nightsounds, in addition to Celtic, new age, jazz, and blues music. WUIS 91.9 FM is also a member station of both National Public Radio and Public Radio International, and regularly broadcasts programs and specials from other sources too.
